Who We Are: The History and The Faces of MyEugene
MyEugene in the News
The tasty doughnut hole of Eugene neighborhood news
Launched in January 2009 as an experiment in citizen journalism, MyEugene is the first web-based, community-driven source for neighborhood news and events in Eugene, Oregon.
Today we are partnering with The Oregonian to share Eugene’s local stories throughout the state.
MyEugene was created to help fill voids in and/or complement local coverage – not to replace existing news outlets. Coverage topics are driven by the community. No story is too small. Every story is local.
We keep our ear to the ground and an eye on the community. We listen to the local chatter online and off, solicit feedback, share information, crowdsource decisions, conduct surveys, dispatch communications, and connect people to each other and to local product and services. We participate in local conversation. And we respond.
Our responsiveness and niche focus on local micro-news and community happenings, has cultivated a distinct, loyal and growing audience. Our unbiased and non-political coverage makes MyEugene a popular news source across every spectrum of the local population.
With an active and established presence on social media and a database of subscribers and contributors, MyEugene’s reach and influence extends well beyond its website. In addition, our feeds are picked up by neighborhood association websites, community blogs, and local aggregators.
Our growth over the first year or so was primarily grass-roots driven – by word-of-mouth and social media. Since then, we’ve been featured locally in print, hosted community events, and have been linked with hundreds of sites and articles on the web. Today, we are partnering with The Oregonian, the largest newsroom in the Pacific Northwest and we have 21 “registered” guest contributors as well as about 36 non-registered volunteer contributors.
Now MyEugene is leading the community charge to “GoLocal” and is launching the city’s first web-based GoLocal Eugene Directory to help promote shopping, dining, playing and giving locally.

Hello:
I heard you now have t-shirts for sale with the new “Go Local Eugene” contest winner’s logo (the one with the bike on it). Where can I order some?
Hi Kellee,
We are in the process of taking pre-orders and building the web page. LMK if you have a timeframe for the holidays and we can work something out. I’ll send you an email now, too.
