The Oregon State University Extension Service will continue to operate its Food Safety and Preservation Hotline through mid-October, despite the closure of its office in Lane County on September 2.
Beginning September 7, the hotline will move to the Extension’s Douglas County office until October 14. The phone number (800-354-7319) will remain the same, as will the hours of operation (Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
“Lane County has a large and dedicated group of volunteers who have helped staff our statewide hotline for many years, but our office is closing and we wanted to find a way to continue serving Oregonians through this growing season,” said Susan Busler, family and community health faculty member for Extension offices in Lane and Douglas counties.
The Oregon State University Extension Service is closing its office near the Lane County fairgrounds and is ceasing all educational programming due to a lack of local revenue.
“The loss of local funding and programs means Lane County residents will now need to turn to Extension’s online resources for access to the trusted, objective information that OSU provides,” said Steve Dodrill, staff chair of the OSU Extension Service in Lane County.
