Organizing meeting to be held on August 23 at 5:30 p.m.
To increase awareness about the value of backyard farming and hen keeping, the Eugene Friendly Neighborhood Farmers network is organizing “The Hundred Hen March” as part of the Eugene Celebration parade on August 28 at 10 a.m.
Economic conditions and food safety concerns have led to a resurgence of interest in backyard farming and hen keeping.
The Hundred Hen March parade entry in this year’s Eugene Celebration will be in keeping with the parade’s tradition of zany and unique participants. Featuring local hens and their people and supporters, the parade procession will be people-powered with hens safely and comfortably secured in wagons, bicycle carts and wheelbarrows.
An organizing meeting will be held at the store on Monday, August 23rd at 5:30 p.m. for anyone interested in participating in the march.
Organic T-shirts with the Hundred Hen March logo will be available for $12 at The Eugene Backyard Farmer store, 501 Washington St. in Eugene.
More information is available on the Hundred Hen March Facebook page or on the Friendly Neighborhood Farmers website.
