After a successful pilot program last fall, County College is back…and it’s unlike any other learning experience around.
Lane County’s free 10-week session (September 9 through November 9) teaches community members how their local government works and how to use and benefit from the county’s breadth of programs and services.
During “class” – which is held every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. – community members will explore Lane County facilities and take part in unique activities and informative sessions each week.***
“County College allowed me to become more engaged with my community, and get a better understanding on how my local government works,” said Chris Boone, County College graduate.
County College is a FREE program for Lane County residents. Space is limited and applicants will be accepted based on their complete responses to the application questions. Applications are due by Thursday, August 26, 2010. Download application forms here or call 541.682.4203 to request one.
What else did last year’s graduates have to say?
“THE most important lesson that I learned was the complexity and size of County government. While the details are important, it’s the depth and breadth of Lane County Government that I as a citizen was reasonably clueless about prior to County College…This puts a ‘face’ on County Government.”
“Thank you for this opportunity to learn about county Government. I shared about taking the class during my recent job interview. It showed my initiative to continue my education and professional development to better serve clients. I think it really helped. I got the job!”
*** Due to a holiday, the last class will be held on a Tuesday evening.
