Three things you may not know about Eugene Parks – Part 2: Lost and Found

by Jaculynn Peterson on July 30, 2010

Keys What should you do if you “find” or “lose” something in one of Eugene’s parks?

Fortunately, the Parks and Open Space (POS) Division has a Lost-and-Found system.

According to Jan Bohman, community relations director for the City of Eugene, Lost-and-Found items are handled according to the following guidelines:

  • If items of value are found in the park, they are brought to the Public Works main office on Roosevelt.
  • Items that seem to be debris or that are left as a result of illegal camping are disposed of by field staff.
  • Items worth under $100 are kept for 30 days – then donated to charity or discarded.
  • Property worth over $100 should be held for 90 days. POS staff delivers the item to the Eugene Police Department (EPD) for investigation and storage. EPD may eventually provide the item for auction if unclaimed.
  • POS staff or members of the public should call EPD for bikes or anything with serial numbers to find out if it has been reported stolen. EPD contact numbers are 541.682.5131 and 541.682.5115.

POS staff will also try to contact the owners of items that have some identification clues.
