Demobilization ceremony held in Eugene for members of Oregon National Guard

by Jaculynn Peterson on April 23, 2010

WaveFlag Today hundreds of local National Guard troops were honored in a Demobilization and Change of Command Ceremony held in Eugene from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The soldiers returned to Oregon after a 12-month tour of duty to a full house at the Lane County Fairgrounds.

Members of the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment of Oregon’s 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team in attendance locally represented a portion of the 2,700 total statewide deployment – the largest since World War II – to Iraq in May 2009.  For some, the occasion marked their third tour in Iraq.Ceremony
