Eugene residents can now report crimes – conveniently and anonymously – online. The Eugene Police Department (EPD) rolled
out the new reporting system to allow citizens to easily file reports on these three crimes:
- Bike Thefts
- Vandalism
- Graffiti
The web-based system also allows residents to report anonymous tips related to other crimes. For residents without internet access, the system can be accessed by a link available at the citizen’s use computer at the Eugene Public Library.
The online reporting system will allow residents to file a report at a time that is best for them without having to wait for an officer to respond or call them back. The resident will also be able to print a preliminary copy of the report upon submission. Once received, the report will be reviewed by police personnel who will then email an official copy of the report to the resident – without a fee.
EPD officials say that the new system will “remove the delay often associated with initially taking the information and then having to wait for re-contact by a community service officer or police officer hours or even days later.” It will also provide EPD with “more time to address community needs.”
“We expect this new internet-based reporting service to be very popular,” said Jean Stronach, EPD records manager. “More and more people are used to accessing information on the Internet and now, for some types of crime, they will have a way to report crimes provided immediately and conveniently online.”
