PosterThe Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans and Questioning Alliance (LGBTQA) at the University of Oregon (UO) has planned a number of events this week in response to the act of vandalism to its student group office in Erb Memorial Union (EMU) on Monday.

In an e-mail to the university community Monday afternoon, UO President Richard Lariviere wrote: “We must do all that we can to come together as a community to fight such acts of intolerance and to provide support to those affected as we deal with the aftermath of this event.”

The university community is doing just that. Below is a list of planned events. Everyone is welcome to attend.

  • February 2, 2010 (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. – LGBTQA supporters will meet at the EMU amphitheater to hold a candlelight vigil followed by a speak-out session.
  • February 3, 2010 (Wednesday) at 11:30 a.m.- A solidarity march will begin in front of the Duck Store on 13th and Kincaid. A rally at the amphitheater will follow.
  • February 4, 2010 (Thursday) at 5 p.m. – An Anti-Hate Forum will be held in the Ben Linder Room in the EMU.
  • February 5, 2010 (Friday) at 2:30 p.m.– Breaking Bigotry’s Protest and Rally will be held outside Johnson Hall.

Around 1 a.m. on Monday, UO maintenance workers discovered the vandalism, which included a spray-painted swastika on the carpet and painted television/computer screens.
