counselinglogo For $20, you can see Winner by Submission and also benefit the Center for Community Counseling, a 30-year-old Eugene institution. The fundraising event will be held at 1 p.m. on January 31 at Wildish Theater in Springfield. Call 541.344.0620 or email to reserve a seat.

According to Sadie Dressekie, board president of the Center for Community Counseling, Winner by Submission is an “edgy play” that examines why teens take unsafe risks and why they may be intrigued by “danger.”

After the performance, “the audience may participate in a panel discussion with the author, youth advocates and representatives from the justice system,” said Dressekie.

The panel discussion will be followed by desserts and more discussion about the performance.

The Center for Community Counseling provides affordable access to professional counseling and parenting classes, including Eugene’s only anger management sessions for parents. The organization serves those with a low income and those without insurance. More than 70 pro bono community counselors provide their services for a sliding-scale fee.

About half of the center’s clients live on $500 a month or less, half are single parents, and almost all have childhood histories of abuse or neglect, said Dressekie.
