Tonight community members are invited to view the final design drawings for the new City Center Skatepark in downtown Eugene.
The unveiling will take place at 6 p.m. in the Bascom / Tykeson room of the Eugene Public Library at 100 W. 10th Avenue.
The new design incorporates feedback from four previous design workshops and an online questionnaire. Community members unable to make the meeting can view the drawings online.
The City of Eugene has partnered with the Downtown Rotary and local non-profit Skaters for Eugene Skateparks to fund and build City Center Skatepark, which is is intended to be a top-quality facility with full cover for year-round public use, rain or shine. The proposed 18,000 square foot facility would be located in the currently underutilized area within Washington/Jefferson Park covered by the I-105 Bridge.
The skatepark is “a key component of a broader effort to revitalize the previously troubled park and invigorate the Whiteaker neighborhood,” according to Kelly Darnell, marketing and outreach manager for the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division.
