UPDATE as of 11/19/09 at 11:27 pm: At about 10:33 PM, Jacob Steven Lucas was taken into custody by Eugene Police…thanks to a tip from a Eugene resident.
Eugene Police are seeking Jacob Steven Lucas, who is wanted on charges of Menacing with a knife, Methamphetamine Possession, and Criminal Trespass 2; police also have probable cause to arrest Lucas on four counts of theft.
In the theft cases, Lucas is suspected of knocking on the doors of residences in the Eugene area and requesting help or using the bathroom or phone. In many cases the victims of these crimes have been younger adults, elderly persons, foreign students or other vulnerable people. In one of the cases, two college-age students allowed him to use their phone, wash his clothing and drove him around. He eventually stole laptops, cameras and other items from them.
Lucas is described as a white male, age 28, 5’7″ tall, 155 pounds, with blonde or strawberry-colored hair, and blue eyes. He has multiple tattoos, including one of a court jester on his back, a ribbon with arrow on his chest, lion on his right shoulder, a sleeve tattoo on his right arm, and tattoos on his left and right arm.
Police would like to remind everyone of the dangers of letting strangers into your home. If someone knocks on your door, do not open the door unless you first know that the person is legitimate and has real business to conduct. You can collect information about them before opening the door and either tell them you are not interested and end the conversation, or you can call the business they represent and find out for yourself if they are legitimate.

We had someone similar to this description casing the Friendly St. neighborhood this summer. One relatively straight one was knocking on the door and sort of half pretending to sell magazine descriptions but mostly scanning the interior. Then after that tweaker guy was coming along behind him a few minutes later and trying the knob and walking into the house if it was unlocked. Our neighbor scared him off buy screaming at him and then warning us. From the description he’d been at our door right before hand.
Meth + crappy economy = be careful folks.

His man came to my office on Oak Street pulling the same kind of
stuff. I had him escorted away by very large men… Glad to see he is in custody. So businesses beware too. And ladies keep large men around.
