Carrotmob to descend upon Eugene Coffee Company on Halloween morning; everyone is welcome to join

by Jaculynn Peterson on October 30, 2009

SueHarnley This week Eugene Coffee Company won the chance – by popular vote – to be “mobbed” by consumers on October 31 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Eco-conscious consumers will put their money where their mouths are by purchasing Eugene Coffee Company’s products as a way to reward the business for its environmentally conscious business practices.

Everyone is invited to the Eugene Carrotmob to support the cause, buy coffee, people watch or just witness for the first time in Eugene the opposite of a boycott (also known as a “buycott”).

The first Carrotmob campaign took place in San Francisco in 2008. They are now happening all over the world – from Eugene to Kansas City to Helsinki. As The Economist reported, Carrotmobs are “shopping for a good cause” and giving consumers the chance to throw their dollars at businesses that have made positive changes in the way they operate.

It’s the idea of rewarding businesses with the “carrot” as opposed to beating them with the “stick.” It’s positive campaigning to show businesses they can attract more consumers if they make changes to become more socially and environmentally aware.

Eugene Coffee Company will use a portion of the money they earn on the day of the Carrotmob to make additional eco-improvements in their business.

Eugene Coffee Company is located at 1840 Chambers, across Chambers Street from Bi-Mart. Overflow parking available in Bi-Mart’s parking lot as well as behind the church to the south of Eugene Coffee Company
