[UPDATE as of 10/22/09: Saturday evening’s robbery of four Eugene area teenagers has led to the arrest of 25-year-old Jeffrey Matthew ELWOOD of El Cajon, California.]
Eugene Police are investigating the Saturday, October 17, 2009 robbery of four Eugene area teenagers. The robbery occurred at 6:17 pm in the parking lot of the Hunky Dory Pipe & Tobacco shop located at 271 West 7th Avenue, Eugene.
The lone suspect wore what victims described as a police badge affixed to a chain around his neck. The suspect ordered the teenagers out of their vehicle. Under the guise of a drug search he ordered the victims to remove the contents of their pockets and to place those items upon their vehicle. The victims were ordered to face a nearby wall and as they complied the suspect gathered their belongings.
Eventually realizing that the suspect was not a police officer, the victims briefly chased the suspect toward West 6th Alley. Prior to reaching the alley, the suspect turned and pointed a handgun at them. He ordered them to retreat to their vehicle and they complied.
The suspect entered an awaiting vehicle that had a female in the front passenger seat. The two then drove away.
Anyone with possible suspect or suspect vehicle information is asked to phone Detective Jeff Donaca at 541.682.5193. Persons with information requiring immediate police assistance should call the Eugene Police Department’s Communications Center at 541.682.5111.
