[PHOTOS] Community members gather to determine priorities for the Eugene Climate & Energy Action Plan

by Jaculynn Peterson on October 6, 2009

Climate&EnergyPlanning Tonight Eugene residents came together for the first of six public forums (see schedule of forums and topics below) being held to determine the priorities that will comprise the Eugene Climate & Energy Action Plan – the primary goal of which is a 50 percent reduction in community-wide fossil fuel consumption by 2030.

The topic for this evening’s forum – held at the Eugene Water & Electric Board meeting rooms – was Buildings and Energy.

The turnout was impressive, the event was well coordinated, and the meeting was smoothly facilitated. Organizers also provided light refreshments for the meeting, which was held from 6 to 9 pm.

The time passed quickly along with the fast-paced agenda that included Climate&EnergyPlanning3discussion, brainstorming, and voting.

The quality of this first session bodes well for the climate plan’s prospects for future success. Upcoming sessions – also to be held at EWEB – include:

  • Food and Agriculture, November 5
  • Land use and Transportation, December 1
  • Consumption and Waste, January 6
  • Health and Social Services, February 4
  • Natural Resources, March 4

Climate&EnergyPlanning1The meetings are open to the public. For more information, contact Matt McRae via email or telephone 541.682.5437.
