TODAY: Family of James Kellis hosts fundraiser at Papa’s Pizza for Lane County Search & Rescue

by Jaculynn Peterson on September 20, 2009

It’s James Kellis’ 37th birthday and his family wants to celebrate their son’s birthday and give back to the Lane County Search & Rescue program, which helped bring their son home.

All day today, September 20, Papa’s Pizza in Springfield will donate 50 percent of the value of food purchased to Lane County Search & Rescue. Community members interested in participating must bring in the flier posted below. The fundraiser will take place throughout the day; the birthday party begins at 3 pm.

“There were so many people that contributed to this that we never met in our life,” Rick Kellis said. “The help we received was overwhelming.”

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, James Kellis went missing on Sunday, September 13. He was found on Thursday, September 17 along Horse Creek, off Horse Creek Road in the McKenzie Bridge area. Family members, searching upstream from the area where Sheriff’s Office ground search teams were concentrating, located Kellis. A Sheriff’s Office helicopter was also in the area at the time Kellis was located. Kellis was considered endangered due to a developmental disability and other health concerns. Kellis was found to be in remarkably good shape.
