Fern Ridge bike path is now missing $37,000 worth of copper wire; public asked to report suspicious activity

by Jaculynn Peterson on September 9, 2009

Around the first of September, thieves ripped 9,350 feet of copper wire and 15 junction boxes from Eugene’s Fern Ridge bike path – the section spanning Terry Street to Roosevelt Boulevard (north to south from the north end of Terry).

Eugene Police are asking members of the community to report any suspicious activity they may have seen or to provide tips that could lead to the identification of the suspect(s) in the Fern Ridge case.

A similar theft occurred last year in late September that plunged more than a half mile of the East Bank bike path into darkness.
