Eugene residents will join more than 37 million Americans across the country in celebrating the 26th Annual Night Out against crime on August 4. Community members will meet at 8:30 pm at the Willamette Christian Church to learn about current crime prevention programs, discuss neighborhood safety tips, speak with Eugene Police staff and city officials, and Meet McGruff the Crime Dog.
The National Night Out program was created to:
- Proactively prepare communities to prevent local crime;
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Strengthen neighborhood and police partnerships; and
- Generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs.
The Eugene Police Department organized the local National Night Out in partnership with Lane Transit District, Churchill Area Neighborhood Association, and city officials.
