Top three benefits for non-profits using social media

by a Eugene Community Member on June 14, 2009

SocMedIcons Today there are so many ways for non-profit organizations to connect with key publics. One of the most efficient ways is through the use of social media.

Here are the top three benefits of implementing a social media plan:

  1. It will increase website traffic. Every time someone reads a Twitter, Facebook or blog post, they will see the URL for the organization’s website, thus increasing online traffic to the organization.
  2. It will promote the organization as a whole. When a member of the community sees the organization’s involvement in the community through pictures or video on a blog, they’ll be much more likely to seek out the organization or refer a friend the next time they are in need of the organization’s services. Additionally, social media provides a window into the world of the organization and its values.
  3. It will allow for conversation. Up until now, organizations have done all the talking. They’ve talked at people for years. Now with the use of social media, members of the community can talk back. Non-profits can engage in conversation with key publics through the use of social media.

With 150 million active users – representing mixed demographics – on Facebook alone, social media is clearly not just for teens. Embrace social media today and allow your non-profit organization to benefit from its many resources.
