Class offers college credit for helping the community; Students and local residents are welcome to participate

WaterFountain Community members of all ages are invited to participate in a four-week, two-credit summer class called “Water Audit and Retrofit.” The class (WATR 199) will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 12:50 pm at Lane Community College (LCC).

Students will be trained to evaluate water use and install water-saving devices in the community – at schools and residential sites. Through work in this class alone, students will save Lane County a minimum of 1 million gallons of water every year, according to college officials.

Members of the class will join the LCC Workforce Water Efficiency Training Teams this summer to explore the economic, social and environmental challenges posed by water scarcity. High school and college students, as well as other community members, will work together in community- and campus-learning “laboratories” to develop water audits.
