A Eugene police officer was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend for head injuries sustained during the arrest – which occurred today at 5:30 pm – of Kory Robert Kristopher Harris, 20, of Eugene.
The incident took place in the 3400 block of Kinsrow in Eugene. Police were investigating the earlier theft of two purses around 3:30 pm from the same neighborhood.
The investigation led officers to Craig’s List where they obtained Harris’ cellular telephone number. Harris had various items listed for sale on the site. Officers set up a ‘buy-bust’ for one of the listed items. Officers arranged a meeting and Harris provided a description of his vehicle.
Harris’ vehicle was travelling south on Kinsrow when the investigating officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Harris immediately attempted to flee on foot. During his effort to elude arrest, he knocked a Eugene police officer to the ground. The officer struck his head on the concrete causing brief unconsciousness.
Harris was eventually taken into custody with no additional injuries to officers. Brittany Melissa Lowery, 18, of Eugene was also arrested without incident.
The Eugene police officer injured during this arrest was treated and released from the RiverBend hospital. The two stolen purses (with contents) were recovered from the trunk of Harris and Lowery’s vehicle.
