Whitney’s first love never accompanied her to the prom. Since then, she’s invested a lot of time and money into their relationship. Now they go everywhere together, traveling throughout the U.S.
“I fell in love with Harleys as a teenager,” says Whitney Boss. “I loved the sound. I loved hearing them go down the street.”
A member of the Eugene chapter of the Harley Owners Group (also known as HOG), Whitney and her peers are living proof that the beauty of sound is indeed in the ear of the beholder.
After receiving her first Harley motorcycle – a 1986 Sportster 883 – as a gift on her 18th birthday, Whitney’s initial infatuation for the brand and the bike bloomed. And it wasn’t long before her passion for Harley grew into a full-blown obsession.
Today, a proud owner of her first new bike, a 2006 Sportster 883, she also owns over 400 pieces of Harley personal wear and house wares. The items include but are not limited to riding gear, shoes, pajamas, sweaters, fleece, hoodies, bathing suits, tank tops, shirts, socks, books, a clock, stained glass, and bar glasses. One of Whitney’s dogs also wears Harley gear! His name is Harley (of course) and he rides on the back of her bike, wearing a Harley jacket and doggles (doggie goggles). Sometimes Harley (the dog) also sports a Harley bandana.

Whitney, a certified paralegal and construction project manager, says she is happy and lucky to work at Sycan Development where she can “wear Harley gear every day.” And when she is not at Sycan, Whitney is on a vacation somewhere that was planned around “being able to hit as many Harley shops as I can in the area.” One year, on a trip from Eugene to San Diego, she managed to “hit” 22 Harley Davidson stores.
One of Whitney’s favorite bike trips is the “Lighthouse Run,” a tour that connects a string of lighthouses on the Oregon coast. Other Harley travel includes trips to Sturgis, as well as organized and charitable rides with the HOG group. And her favorite sight while travelling on her Harley was the view from the top of Glacier National Park.

When she retires, Whitney will be literally riding off into the sunset at different locations around the globe. “I want to fly to different countries around the world and rent a Harley. The best way to see the country and meet new people is on a bike,” Whitney explained. She also noted that there are Harley dealerships in almost every country in the world!
So what advice did Whitney give to first-time Harley buyers? “Go for the one you want. Don’t settle for less,” she said.
Sounds like sage advice for anyone looking to fall in love.
